This year the City of Semmes held a Veterans Social and Concert. It was a fantastic event. The Mobile Symphonic Pops Band played patriotic music, and the event was catered by A Gathering Place. There was a fantastic turnout by the local veterans in our community.
In November, the new court of Camellia Maids were welcomed. A brunch was held for the dress reveal and first meeting. The new Camellias are excited to represent the City of Semmes and are open for appearances. Please email [email protected] to schedule an appearance.
The Semmes tree was lit following a countdown by the community at the tree lighting event on November 23rd. There was holiday entertainment, visits with Santa, and even a Christmas Carnival. The Community shopped all day from the over 60 vendors in the Christmas Market. It was a wonderful Hallmark event.
The trees are up at Semmes Honor Park! Go by and decorate one!
There will be a special city council meeting November 13, 2024, at 5:00 p.m., at Semmes City Hall Council Chambers to consider a termination agreement with NextSite, LLC.
The new Publix on Schillinger Road opened in October. Go by and check it out if you haven't already! We are so excited to have this new addition in Semmes!
The new Fire Station off Schillinger Road (Future Station 1) is getting closer to completion. During the month of October the sign was installed, concrete was was completed, and the landscaping was started. The interior has come a long way with the ceiling grids installed, cabinets mounted, tile completed, etc. The Station plans to be on this year's Semmes Christmas Tour and Shop Hop.
A new Dollar General Market is coming to Semmes! It will be located near the gas station at the corner of Wulff Road and Snow Road. Plans for the project have been submitted and approved. The company will begin pulling permits for the project soon.
Building permits will be issued soon for the new Aldi transition, pending the submittal of landscaping bonds to improve beautification of the area and adhere to current regulations.
Taco Bell is in progress. Plans for the project have been submitted. The company is waiting on Health Department approvals to move forward. Demolition of the current building (was Colonel Dixie) will begin soon.
The Water Feature/ Splash Addition at Viking Park behind the Community Center will be well loved by the Community next season. The night light features and water sprayers were completed in October. The water comes out at different time intervals making it exciting play. Since it's the off season for this amenity, the City has decided to go a step further and make it wheelchair/ handicapped accessible. The accessibility structures, shade, and benches will be added over the next few months.
Plans have been submitted and approved for a Take 5 Oil Change. The business will be located off Moffett Road between the current Mavis Tire and Semmes Therapy.
Jiffy Lube is coming to Semmes! It will be located by the Admiral Landing (the future townhome community) across from Publix, just north of the storage facility. Plans for the project have been approved. The company will begin pulling permits in the next few months.
The Camellias will meet in October for their color reveal, fittings, and dress design. We are excited to work with these ladies!
The new Fastpace Urgent Care is now open. A ribbon cutting ceremony was held in September. We are excited to have more medical in Semmes!

The slab has been poured for the new Splash Feature at Viking Park behind the Community Center.
The work on the site of the future Wawa is looking great. They will go vertical on the building soon.
The Senior Apartment Complex beside Publix is coming along nicely. Brickwork is in progress.

Up until now, many of the businesses that we consider Semmes in the area of Schillinger Rd. and Moffett Rd., were not in the corporate limits of the City. Recently, Mayor Van Hook had a legislative annexation bill taken before the Senate and House of Representatives to bring in many of these businesses into our corporate limits. The bill was sponsored by Senator Jack Williams and passed both the Senate, the House and signed by Governor Kay Ivey. The Bill will take effect October 1, 2024, annexing the properties listed below (Not within the Green highlighted area). We are excited to announce that this Legislative Bill is expected to bring an additional estimated yearly revenue of $750,000 to the City of Semmes.
Final inspection has been completed on the new Semmes Fire Rescue ladder truck. It will be arriving and put into service soon!
Please be advised that the Rail Crossing at Wulff Rd, near Park Ave, will be closed for repairs starting 5:00AM September 3rd through 8:00AM September 5th.
Publix is getting close to completion! The store plans to open in October. Grand Opening details will be posted as soon as they are set.
The site for Wawa is in progress. Contractors have plans to go vertical on the project in September.
The new fitness stations at the walking trail around MGM have been installed and will be completed with concrete slabs soon.
The New Fire Station off of Schillinger Road is still progressing with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing on the interior. Temporary power will be connected to the project soon.
Contractors have started ground work on the site of the future townhome development, near Publix.
The new Fastpace Health facility off of Moffett Road is getting close to completion. The facility is making plans for a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony in September or October. Details will be posted when plans are set.
The new Fire Station (#1) has seen a lot of progress during the month. Current work includes pouring the concrete driveways, as well as the plumbing, electrical, and mechanical inside the building.
The new pickleball facility is already getting a ton of use! In July, the new furniture was delivered and installed at the facility’s large pavilion. Currently, new bollard lights are being installed.
The seal coating and striping of the Community Center parking areas are in progress and will be completed soon.
On July 8, 2024, the Department of Homeland Security awarded the City of Semmes Fire Department the Assistance to Firefighters Grant. Read more details here!
Over the next few months, the City of Semmes will be making some site improvements to the Public Safety Complex. We will do this using the ARPA funds allocated by Mobile County. There will be a variety of improvements including landscaping, irrigation, parking lot seal coating, striping, and parking bumpers.
The City of Semmes is working to add 4 fitness stations along the sidewalk trails around the schools including pull-ups, sit-ups, dips, and parallel bars.
Utility work is in progress for the new Splash Pad behind the Community Center. Installation will start soon!
